Diabetic Feet

We're here to help!

Diabetic foot care is an important part of podiatry as a specialty. Podiatrists have significant experience and training when it comes to diagnosing and treating foot problems specific to diabetes. If you are a patient with diabetes, you are at a higher risk of developing complications related to hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Approximately 15% of patients with diabetes will go on to develop an ulcer. Typically these develop in areas of increased rubbing or pressure.

Complications related to diabetes:

  • Numbness, tingling in your feet

  •  Poor circulation

  • Wounds on feet, legs

  • Slow healing of wounds

At Wiemken Foot & Ankle our providers have vast experience in treating complicated wounds and issues related to the diabetic foot. Treatment options may include:

  • Wound care specific topical medications, dressings

  • Wound debridement

  • Antibiotics for prevention/treatment of infection

  • Offloading wound in specialized shoe gear

If rapidly developing infection develops or experiencing a chronic wound that will not heal, surgical intervention may be necessary
